NSW consent law as of July 2022.

In June 2022 changes to laws around consent came into effect in NSW (https://dcj.nsw.gov.au/justice/reform-of-sexual-consent-laws.html).

Around 20% of Australian women over the age of 15 have experienced sexual violence. Traumatic experiences can be part of the overall presentation and history not only for clients with PTSD, but for broader mood disorders like Major Depression and Anxiety. The changes strengthen requirements for clear and explicit communication of consent, with an emphasis on the ongoing nature of consent. An excellent summary of the law and its potential impacts has been written by Dr Rachel Hogg of Charles Sturt University.

It is important to have an understanding both of what the consent laws are, and the intention behind the creation of the laws.
